Does Gluten-Free = Bikini Ready
This week I had a few women customers buying gluten-free doughnuts claiming they had read eating the Gluten-Free way helps you lose weight. I did some research, mostly women’s magazines, and they do tout “Going gluten-free helps to eliminate symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating, and excessive gas. Yes, that is TRUE…if you have a sensitivity to gluten….they don’t mention that part.
The magazines also claim a gluten-free diet is also low in carbohydrates, therefore making it very effective for those wanting to lose excess weight. In the past a lack of gluten-free products led to a diet that cut out white sugar and white flour…however, don’t they know GF has come a long way? We now have delicious GF doughnuts, cakes, pies, bread, mac & cheese - every fattening carby thing regular people eat. (Check out our gluten-free foods!)
Many Celiacs (like me) found they gained weight the first year of being diagnosed because not only do we start absorbing nutrients (wonderful) we also start absorbing calories as well!
After explaining these facts to my doughnuts buyers what did they do? Looked at me like I was the devil and bought them anyway.
Moral of the story? People will believe what they want to believe as long as it involves doughnuts.
